Pope Francis Daily Reflections: August 23rd 2021
August
Human Family
Family as Domestic Church
and School of Learning
Love is patient and kind; Loves does not envy or boast; it sis not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on all its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Monday 23rd August : Families are the domestic Church, where Jesus grows: he grows in the love of spouses, he grows in the lives of children.
Tuesday 24th August : I ask you especially to show concern for those who do not have a family of their own, in particular those who are elderly and children without parents. Never let them feel isolated, alone, and abandoned, but help them to know that God has not forgotten them.
Wednesday 25th August: The family… is a teacher of acceptance and solidarity: it is within the family that education substantially draws upon relationships or solidarity; in the family, one learns that the loss of health is not a reason for discriminating against human life; the family teaches us not to fall into individualism and to balance the “I” with the “we.”
Thursday 26th August: Over and over again, we see that family bonds are essential for the stability of relationships in society, for the work of education, and for integral human development for they are inspired by love, responsible intergenerational solidarity and mutual trust.
Friday 27th August: The spirit of love, which reigns in a family, guides both mother and child in their conversations; therein they teach and learn, experience correction, and grow in appreciation of what is good.
Saturday 28th August: How do we keep our faith as a family? Do we keep it for ourselves in our families as a personal treasure like a bank account, or are we able to share it by our witness, by our acceptance of others, by our openness.
