Thanksgiving Thistles

Webmaster • Jul 10, 2021

Hello

I’m Sister Catherine Egan and I send very best wishes to you and your family from all of us here at St Andrew’s Hospice. I hope you’re looking forward to the easing of restrictions and the freedoms that will bring – even though we’re all having to wait a wee bit longer than we’d hoped!

Today I have the honour of inviting you and your family to be part of a very special celebration event at St Andrew’s Hospice this summer – Thanksgiving Thistles.

Firstly, we invite you to dedicate a Thanksgiving Thistle to your loved one. Each name will be inscribed on a special thistle, planted at the Hospice to create a display of many hundreds of thistles, all coming together to create a beautiful, vibrant scene.

Secondly, we would like to invite you and your family and friends to attend a warm, celebratory thanksgiving service outside St Andrew’s Hospice on Thursday 19 August at 7pm. After the service, you will be invited to collect your dedicated thistle from the display and take it home to keep. Please note: numbers attending the service may be restricted depending on COVID restrictions in place at the time. The thanksgiving service will also be live streamed online.

We know for some this will be the first chance to properly remember and celebrate the life of someone who has passed away.

You can make your dedication online here or, if you like, you can call us on 01236 766951.

There’s no cost to these Thanksgiving Thistles, or for attending the service, but of course we would be very grateful if you were able to make a donation towards hospice care costs over the summer. It is an exceptionally busy and challenging time here at St Andrew’s Hospice – and we do need your support, especially as our fundraising programme ‘restart’ has had to be pushed back so many times!

You can keep in touch with us on social media for all the latest news and goings on over the summer; please follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Thank you for your ongoing support. I send you all best wishes for a happy and healthy summer.

If you wish to sign up for Gift Aid. It is a great way to help the parish financially, costing you absolutely nothing. If you wish to sign up contact myself or Doreen Lee and we will give you the form and hand it back as you can and we can get it organised. As I said it costs you nothing, but helps the parish so much. People who have recently signed up your envelopes are in the porch.

Any man who is considering a calling/vocation to the Priesthood or the Permanent Diaconate in the Diocese of Motherwell should make himself known in the first instance to his Parish Priest. His contact details will then be forwarded to the Diocesan Vocations Director, Fr Charles O’Farrell, for those considering Priesthood, or to Deacon Bill McMillan, for those considering the Diaconate. If anyone wishes to receive information or encouragement about discerning their vocation, contact can be made with Fr O’Farrell at frofarrell@rcdom.org.uk , or Deacon McMillan at deaconmcmillan@rcdom.org.uk .

He is risen! He is not here! Man's inhumanity to Man As we celebrate the resurrection of the Lord, we remember this great act of love. Jesus died and rose from the dead to save us and redeem us. His message of justice peace and love are as relevant today as they were 2000 years ago. I think about the saying "man's inhumanity to man." especially in War torn areas, Ukraine and Gaza the fighting is still going on. People are dying, starving. I ask that the Risen Lord will bring peace to these conflicts and peace to our whole world. I also pray for peace in our community, parish and families, that the Risen Lord will be with each and every one of us. It has been a busy week so far, I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped. I really appreciate everybody who has helped in anyway. I want to wish you and your families a happy and holy Easter. That the Risen Lord will be with you today and always. Always be assured of my continued prayers and commitment to the parish. God Bless and Prayers Fr. Frank
