Pope Francis Daily Reflections: July 5th 2021
Monday 5th July : . Work is fundamental to the dignity of a person. Work to use a metaphor, “anoints “ us with a dignity, fills us with dignity, makes us similar to God, who has worked and still works, who always acts (cf John 5:17): it gives one the ability to maintain oneself, one’s family, to contribute of one’s own nation.
Tuesday 6th July : Every human being is a child of God! He or she bears the image of Christ! We ourselves need to see, and then to enable others to see, that migrants and refugees do not only represent a problem to be solved, but are brothers and sisters to be welcomed, respected and loved.
Wednesday 7th July: A change of attitude toward migrants and refugees is needed on the part of everyone, moving away attitudes of defensiveness and fear, indifference and marginalisation-all typical of a throwaway culture-toward attitudes based on a culture of encounter, the only culture capable of building a better, more just and fraternal world.
Thursday 8th July: Poor health and disability are never a good reason for excluding or worse, for eliminating a person; and the most serious privation that elderly persons undergo is not the weakening of the body and the disability that may ensue, but abandonment and exclusion, the privation of love.
Friday 9th July: A society truly welcomes life when it recognises that it is also precious in old age, in old age, in disability, in serious illness, and even when it is fading: when it teaches that the call of human fulfilment does not exclude suffering, indeed, when it teaches its members to see in the sick and suffering a gift for the entire community, a presence that summons them to solidarity.
Saturday 10th July: Violence against the elderly is inhuman, just as that against children. But God does not abandon you: he is with you! With his help you are and you continue to be the memory for your people, as well as for us, for the great family of the Church.
